As mentioned in a previous post I have been enjoying developing my colour film at home as much as capturing the image with my growing collection of cameras. So I felt considerably alarmed to learn, last year, that the company who produce the chemical I use were going to cease to exist. However after months of rumour it has been announced that Tetenal will continue to exist albeit under a new name and under new management. This is indeed a happy ending to a time of uncertainty.
Just how much I would miss home developing was reinforced to me just today.
A couple of months ago I was asked by a client to develop a colour film that had been languishing in a draw for what now appears to be some 14 years. What was on the film was not known. Developing the film revealed that it was the record of a family holiday with some friends around 2005.
I duly scanned the negatives and presented the jpeg images to their owner. Good memories flooded back of a significant holiday. The photos were eagerly emailed to family members not currently at home and greeted with “where did you find these?” Conversations were started with other friends appearing in the holiday photos.
What a privilege to have had a share in this joyful ending.
