In 2016, on a whim, we decided to drive the 250+ mile to the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliff to see if we could see puffins. When we arrived it was very misty and prospects seemed bleak. However as the photo below shows, we were rewarded. We then drove back again happy with our experience.

This year I wanted to see if we could repeat or maybe even better our experience. This time we stayed overnight. When we arrived the weather conditions were much better. The sheer volume of birds visiting this area is amazing. The noise from all these birds is quite deafening.

Bempton is apparently home to the biggest breeding colony of Gannets on mainland Britain. Awesome!

The Razorbill is a very distinct looking bird.

Because we were visiting a little earlier than last time we were treated to a beautiful display of wild flowers.

You really do have to keep your eyes open as highlighted by the shot below. People just out of the edges of the photo below were totally oblivious to the Linnets on the fence.

But still no Puffins. We had to wait until later in the day. But it was worth the wait.

We certainly matched our previous experience if not excelled it. We had more time to appreciate Bempton this time around. Although I had gone with a specific plan in mind, I’m really pleased we were able to see so many other things of interest. Definitely worth another visit..soon.
