As mentioned in a previous post I have a new scanner for my film negatives and I have been testing it out over the last few weeks.
The first image was scanned at a resolution of 2400 dpi and is a 6mb file. The second at 9600dpi and weighs in at 80.9mb file. Despite the big difference in size, I can’t see a huge difference in quality.

However when we zoom into a part of the image, that’s when the difference becomes apparent.

So while there were no surprises, it was interesting to see how my new scanner performed.
The take away of course, is that the image scanned at a higher resolution allows greater flexibility when cropping or enlarging part of an image whilst maintaining quality.
