Time to Play

Listening to the radio recently, I found myself intrigued by the comments of an author of a new book. The discussion focused on the need, as adults, to play. As children we learn so much through unstructured play, where we make up the game and any rules as we go along. It nurtures creativity and helps us to develop. However as we move into adulthood we appear to loose that ability to just play and are poorer off for the lack of it.

This got me thinking. Could this be one of the reasons I enjoy and feel better for engaging in a spot of photography.

There are times I go out with the express goal of taking a particular photo and its very satisfying, even fun, when things come together and I get the shot I was hoping for.

However more often than not, more fun follows when I take the view “lets go out and see what happens. “

Just this last weekend, I found myself walking around in the rain with camera in hand with some friends. Unplanned, flat and uninteresting light how could this be fun. But it was. The photo below was the result. Nothing special but I had Fun.
