Rob and Roberta

As part of my current ‘covid’ routine, I spend the first half hour or so of my waking day, with a cup of tea and camera, sat by the back door overlooking the garden. This being springtime and all, the birds are particularly busy building nests in preparation for another generation. I have mentioned a pair of Sparrows in a previous post, who are quiet right now, presumably awaiting the patter of tiny feet.

It is not uncommon to see Robins in the garden. However one pair caught my attention. At first, I thought it might be a juvenile and parent as the parent fed the other. But the juvenile seemed to be too big, at which point I entertained the idea that in fact it was a male with its mate, hence Rob and Roberta.

Notice, in the two pictures below, how our Roberta holds one of her legs awkwardly, as if hurt.
