One Third of My Way Through 365 Film Project – Some Observations

Well that has certainly gone by quickly. I find it hard to believe! So here are some thoughts.

I’m pleased with the decision to use a dedicated ‘favourite’ camera to capturing the image for the day. My appreciation for my F3HP has soared to new heights. It’s robust logical layout has enabled me to think more about the image I’m taking than working out how to take the image. However this would be useless if the exposure was flawed. The F3HP’s meter has been flawless in it’s accuracy, adding to a thoroughly joyful experience.

I have now moved on to my F4S and look forward to a similar experience.

I had originally intended to load the camera up with enough film to complete a weeks images. I soon found this a little wasteful and I needed more as I often take two images, “just in case.”

I have to admit to being someone who easily loses interest and struggles to see a task through to its end or conclusion, even when it is something I enjoy. Therefore I was a little apprehensive, to say the least, to committing to this 365 Project. I am pleasantly surprised at my continuing enthusiasm for and engagement in this project. Perhaps mindset has something to do with this? I don’t view this tiresome or a task to get out of the way. Instead I’m seeing evidence of ’feeling good’ and positive. How long this will continue???

Of course there have been days when enthusiasm has not been there. Several times I’ve reached the end of a day and had to dig deep to ‘find’ an image. But on reflection that’s when I seem to be learning more.

I have also noticed, at least in my head, a change taking place in the way I look at a potential image. I’m very much a happenstance kind of photographer, taking photos of things I notice, like and engage with at the time. I don’t see that changing, it’s me. However I am aware of being more thoughtful as to what I capture and why. I’m even finding myself thinking of themes for the images I take before I take them rather than an afterthought! Is this making me a better photographer? Maybe?

So early signs seem to indicate this is having a positive effect on my well being.

No review would be complete without some bloopers, times when things did not come together. Enjoy!

365 Film Project Blooper Reel 1

Beginning of the film partially exposed as I put it in the camera. Too far away!

365 Film Project Blooper Reel 2

I thought I could hand hold this, I clearly couldn’t. Lesson:-Don’t rush and put it on a tripod

365 Film Project Blooper Reel 3

In my defence for the image above I was trying too hard. I had the camera on my tripod upside down because of the very low angle. As a consequence I was literally hanging upside down and forgot the important matter of focusing. Doh!

Week Four011

Just didn’t work. I would like to try again on this subject.

I’m not quite sure what I was thinking when I took the above image.
