I Don’t Believe It – Part Two

These are the continuing voyages of…… Sorry wrong story, or is it ? I am charting space that I didn’t think I would be with a Leica R3 MOT.

As mentioned previously I have solved the problem of the perished light seals only to discover that the camera was apparently overexposing. Could this be fixed, should I try to fix it?
The R3 MOT has a dial for exposure compensation up to either +/- 2 stops. So, as a first endeavour I went out with a view to taking a series of two images. The first would be with the camera set to automatic and the second would be with it set to -1 exposure compensation. This way I would be using the cameras light meter not an external one, which is what I would prefer to do with the R3 MOT.

Below is an image taken in automatic

Here is the same image with -1 exposure compensation dialled in

Again here is another image taken on Automatic

And here again I have dialled in -1 exposure compensation

So what does this all mean?

My Leica R3 MOT when set to automatic will generally overexpose a scene. However by setting the camera to -1 exposure compensation I should generally get an image I will be pleased with. Should this worry me? Should I try to fix the problem?

I am inclined to take the view, at this moment in time anyway, that I have a camera from the late 1970’s that works. If by placing the camera on automatic and with exposure compensation set to -1 it produces images that I am pleased with, then I am delighted☺️

What about the lens I’m using? To be continued…..
