In Too Deep

As mentioned in previous posts some of the film cameras that come my way need some attention. With each successful encounter my confidence grows along with my understanding and ability.

A recent purchase saw me come into possession of a non working Kowa SE circa 1964. What made this an interesting buy was that it had a leaf shutter which is housed in the lens rather than a focal plane shutter in the camera. However, it appears the leaf shutter can be rather unreliable, and indeed the reason why this camera is not working.

Time for the set of screwdrivers! The first item to unscrew was the lens name plate. This came off very easy.

Using some correction fluid, I marked the location of the first lens element. Again this came off with very little resistance.

The two photos below show the top plate where the leaf shutter blades are. This is when things went horribly wrong. On tipping the camera forward the plate and shutter leaves fell out!!!

Below are the five shutter blades in position on its lower plate. The problem now is getting this back into the lens, in the right position.

Once in position this upper plate, pictured below, can be replaced and the lens reassembled.

This part of the project has so far alluded me. Has my confidence become over-confidence? At the moment the answer is YES.
