Developing Issues

This was meant to be a review of the Nikon EM. However on developing the film it was clear that “we have a problem Houston.” When comparing this film with the last I had developed, the images definitely look very pale with only a couple on the roll looking anything like what I’m used to seeing.

The image above was the first I took with the EM and all looks well. The one below though looks decidely underexposed. At first I thought it might be a problem with the camera.

The same image with a levels adjustment. But what is going on in the sky area? What are those random streaks? I don’t think they are water marks as I know what they look like.

The image below was in the middle of the film and looks ok, except for those streaks.

The image above was the next on the roll and once again looks well underexposed. Even with a levels adjustment the image does not look good.(Below)

Finally at the end of the film I’m still left wondering is it camera or developing chemicals reaching their natural end of life?

What are those streaks?

Since there seems to be a number of potential issues I will have to eliminate them one at a time. The Fotospeed FD10 developer is a good 5 months old so I will try a new batch. As for the camera I will have to put another roll of film and see what happens. This will have to wait a while as I move into colour developing for the summer.

To be continued…….
