A Day Out at St Aidan’s RSPB Part II – with a Nikon F3 and some expired Colour Film

As mentioned in part one of my day out , here, I also took along a Nikon F3 and one of my favourite lenses a Nikkor 80-20mm f4.5. It may be heavy but it more than makes up by rewarding me with sharp images.

I have put off using my limited supply of colour film because by doing so I can get my chemicals to last from the early spring until the colours of autumn. I use Tetenal C31 liquid pack. You get six bottles which are clearly labelled and you simply dilute until you get 1 litre of working solutions.

The film was Jessops diamond everyday 200 ISO, which had expired in 2006. I rated the film at 100 ISO.

The April day was initially cool but soon warmed up nicely. Plenty of good light but would there be plenty of good photos???

Normally with a film this expired I would expect quite a magenta cast. However, I have to say I was impressed by the lack of it. At least it saves me having to spend an inordinate amount of time in front of the computer trying to neutralise it.😀

Despite the Nikkor 80-200mm f4.5 lens being manual focus, I was pleased I can still get reasonably sharp images from moving subjects….sometimes.🫤

Even the dandelions were looking good.

I have to say, looking through the images from this film it has aged well. Rating it at 100 ISO was definitely the right thing to do.

I have another roll of the film which I am looking forward to using. But where should I use it????
