Nikon TC 201

I wasn’t looking for this two times converter, honest. Particularly after my observations here about my current lens lineup. But when I saw the price, £29, and the potential to ‘enhance’ (an expression I have, to justify a not needed expense) the lenses I have, the decision was made all too quickly😳

The TC 201 is a manual converter for manual lenses. Perfect as my top two favourite lenses are both manual. So how would they perform with thus two times converter.

I was aware that when using a converter it would soften the images , but how much would it do so?

First up was my Nikkor 500 mm reflex f 8 fitted to my Nikon D500. Image quality was set to high quality jpeg.

The subject was over 150 feet away, the maximum distance in the lens before infinity.

Now to add the TC 201…..

I now tried my Nikon 80-200mm f4.5 lens at 200mm.

Again, I now added the TC201…

I have to say I’m very happy with the results. This is a very quick test, a further in depth test could be performed.

There is a little extra chromatic aberration in addition to a little softening in the images I can see. However, over all not bad at all 🤔 especially as these can be corrected in post processing.

Which I will be looking at another time……..
